The town was basically founded as a mining camp and was incorporated into a town in 1986. Recently Cave Creek added a preserve of 2,000 acres of Sonoran Desert at the Spur Cross converation area for all to enjoy. 

The Town of Cave Creek encompasses 28.24 square miles adn has a population of approximately 4,300. It is situated in Northern Maricopa County approximately 36 miles north of downtown Phoenix.  Homes in Cave Creek range from $300,000 to over a million dollars.

The Cave Creek Unified School District (#93) has a boundary of 144-square miles and includes the town of Carefree, most of the town of Cave Creek and portions of Scottsdale, Phoenix and areas under county jurisdiction.
